BRAZIL – The Rio Negro delivers!

As in previous years, we traditionally organised our tour to the Rio Negro in Brazil in January. Fishing unites entire nations and so a colourful group of Swedes, Germans and even two Italians set off on the “Mission 80+” in the Amazon jungle. A Peacock Bass over the magical 80 centimetre mark is the dream for every “perch angler” and for some of us this dream should become reality. But even the smaller specimens are impressive in terms of fighting power and their colourfulness.
However, the gods also put the journey before the catch, but as we all know, the journey is also the destination and is simply part of such journeys.

After arriving in Manaus, we went straight to the hotel for one night. It’s good (unfortunately rather bad for the wallet) when the ground floor of the hotel has an integrated fishing shop with a huge selection of lures for peacock bass and more. Shopping is fun this way!

The next morning at 5.00 a.m. the alarm clock rang and the transfer bus took us to the airport. A small charter plane took us to Barcelos, the starting point for our tour on the Rio Negro, in around 90 minutes.

When we landed in Barcelos, our luggage was loaded and after about a 10-minute drive we reached the riverbank and the jetty for the boats, where our floating hotel boat was already waiting for us.

After loading, we set off at full speed up the Rio Negro towards the fishing area that we were to fish in the afternoon.

The cabins were occupied, the fishing tackle prepared and after a hearty lunch we all headed out onto the water. This was followed by a total of 6 unforgettable fishing days with lots of strong and colourful peacock bass and a unique nature experience.

The drone gave us a completely different impression of the impressive jungle landscape of the Rio Negro and the masses of water that are actually hard to imagine.

After a great tour and lots of unforgettable experiences, we returned to Barcelos, where we spent our last night on the banks of the Rio Negro at the Peacock Lodge and enjoyed a cosy evening.

Initially, I thought that our expedition on the Rio Negro with Travel2Fish would be a one-off – a unique experience that you might only have once in a lifetime. But what I experienced there completely changed my perspective. The overwhelming beauty of nature, the encounters with the diverse wildlife and the incomparable experiences of fighting the peacock bass have awakened a longing in me that I would never have expected. The idea of diving back into this unique environment, getting together with such a diverse group and exploring these extraordinary fishing grounds again under the guidance of Robert is just too tempting. It is obvious that this trip was not only a highlight of my life, but the beginning of a deep and lasting enthusiasm that will inevitably lead me back to the Rio Negro.

Cheers

I have often travelled after fish in my life. This tour to the Rio Negro was by far the most extraordinary trip for me. It has taken me to places I had only heard about before. When I carried my biggest peacock of the tour on my hands at 80 cm, it was not only a beautiful fish, but also a fishing highlight in my life. Thanks to all the participants I had the pleasure of meeting during the trip. But above all, my thanks go to Robert and Travel2Fish for this unique experience.

A journey that has left its mark, definitely in a positive sense. The Rio Negro and its colourful inhabitants have aroused a fascination in me that is second to none.

From the organisation to the last hours before departure to Germany – everything was just perfect.

Fishing for peacock bass is a real pleasure for any ambitious predator angler. In terms of aggressiveness and fighting power, the Peacock Bass is, in my opinion, the most powerful thing there is.

It’s definitely not the last time I’ve been on the hunt for colourful monsters in the world’s largest jungle.

The tour to Brazil on the Rio Negro was also an unforgettable experience for me. It’s difficult for me to list all the highlights, because there were simply too many. It was definitely a fantastic week with great people that is firmly etched in our cerebral cortex. Fishing for peacock bass is addictive and I’m already looking forward to the next tour I’m allowed to accompany to Brazil.

See you soon!
