WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR SEYCHELLES FISHING HOLIDAY

This is how your fishing adventure begins:

With the international flight, you land in Mahé in the morning. After passing immigration and receiving your luggage, a taxi driver will already be waiting for you at the exit. The ride to the harbor, from where your fishing tour starts, takes only about 10 to 15 minutes.

Once at the harbor, you load your gear onto the catamaran and prepare the tackle. Shortly after, you set sail to head to the distant fishing spots. On the way there, the trolling rods are naturally put into the water and the first fish usually come aboard quickly. So even during the journey, wahoos, mahi mahi, bonitos or other pelagic fish shorten the wait.
Alternatively, you are also welcome to arrive one or two days earlier and acclimate on Mahé. We will be happy to offer you suitable and individual accommodation options for this.

YOUR FIRST FISHING DAY IN THE SEYCHELLES

While on the previous day after checking in on the catamaran you only prepared your tackle and completed the journey to the fishing spots, today you start your fishing adventure after a relaxed night.

Usually, the fishing day begins at 6:00 a.m., shortly after you wipe the sleep from your eyes. A fresh coffee to wake up, a grab for the jigging or popping rod – and in most cases, the rod is already bent shortly after with the first fish of the day.
Catching 20 to 30 fish before breakfast is not unusual. Could you imagine a better start to the day?
During the rest of the day, you can continue to fish to your heart’s content.

Tip: Just troll a sinking stickbait or deep-diving wobbler behind the boat while the skipper prepares for the next drift or changes location. We were able to catch some nice fish on our test trip this way.

FISHING DURING YOUR SEYCHELLES FISHING HOLIDAY

Since you are already in the target area with the catamaran, unnecessarily long travel distances to the fishing spots are avoided. Your fishing day usually begins in the morning around 6:00 a.m., shortly after sunrise, and ends approximately at sunset around 6:00 p.m. – only interrupted by short breakfast and lunch breaks.

Main target fish are trophy dogtooth tuna and giant trevally, but many other species are also caught as bycatch.
Amberjacks, green jobfish, rosy jobfish, sailfish, marlin, mahi mahi, yellowfin tuna, sharks, various snapper and grouper species, barracudas and wahoos are just a few species from the wide range.

THE RIGHT FISHING GEAR FOR THE SEYCHELLES

If you wish to rent gear:

Trolling gear is already available on board. High-quality rods and reels for popping and jigging can be rented from us or provided by our local partner.

If you bring your own gear:
The Seychelles and our tours are not suitable for light tackle. The fish are large, and fishing takes place mostly in deep waters far from the coast. Current records include Dogtooth Tuna at 1.90 m/approx. 80 kg and Giant Trevally at 1.45 m/approx. 50 kg+. You can leave your light tackle at home.

Our recommendation for popping in the Seychelles

  • Heavy popping rod, PE8–10 class, casting weight 150–200 g, combined with a high-speed reel such as DAIWA SALTIGA 20000-H or DAIWA CERTATE 18000-H, spooled with PE10 braided line (e.g. TASLINE 100 lbs) and 170–200 lbs leader (e.g. 1.45 mm CLIMAX EXTREME).

  • Large poppers (120–170 g) with deep cup, and sinking stickbaits (12–25 cm).

For speed jigging, you should also bring big game tackle – it’s worth it. Landing a 50+ kg Dogtooth Tuna on PE6 is pure luck. Don’t tempt fate unnecessarily.

Our recommendation for speed jigging in the Seychelles

  • Heavier jigging rod, PE8 class, jig weight 250–400 g. A matching spinning or conventional reel with power gear (P or PG, not high-speed!), e.g., DAIWA SALTIGA 20000-P, spooled with PE8 braided line (80 lbs, DAIWA J-Braid EXPEDITION 0.35 or 0.42 mm) and 100–130 lbs leader (e.g., 1.20 mm CLIMAX EXTREME).

  • Fast-sinking speed jigs from 150–300 g for depths of around 40 to 110 m.

After booking, you will receive detailed tour information as a PDF with all recommendations for your trip preparation.
